9 Weeks- Dumplin’ and the Earthquake

Not a whole lot has changed since week 8. Taking the Diclectin 2x a day has been great for managing my all-day sickness. Yesterday, I forgot my afternoon dose, and was dry heaving all evening. That was some reassurance that Dumplin’ is still doing well and making me sick.

I was supposed to have a midwife appointment yesterday, but she called and rescheduled because she was at a birth and wouldn’t likely make it back in time for our appointment. I haven’t met this midwife yet, but she seemed nice over the phone.

After our ultrasound on Monday, I’ve been feeling a lot better about this pregnancy sticking around. My feelings of security are still wavering though. I joined a due date group on Facebook, and every single day, a woman posts about a miscarriage or no longer seeing a heartbeat. It’s sad, and also terrifying. On the other hand, at this point, we have a 98% chance of a successful pregnancy. I know that our case is unique, with the autoimmune stuff going on, but I’m hanging on to the fact that 98% is pretty damn close to 100%.

All day yesterday, and all day today (so far), I’ve had really loose stools. It’s not quite diarrhea, but more like the cat poops I tend to have when I just start my period. They are airy, and I pooped about 8 times yesterday. This morning, I have already pooped 4 times. No blood, no mucus. At first, I worried that it might be food poisoning, but I haven’t really had cramps or felt sick. Now I’m wondering if I have just been eating too much fibre? I have been living off pancakes for two weeks now, and then felt really guilty about my poor food choices that I replaced the pancakes with oatmeal and hemp seeds, and have been force-feeding myself salad and veggies at least once a day. Could this be the culprit?

My TSH is on the low side (0.3) despite lowering my dose of levothryoxine to my pre-conception dose. My endocrinologist called today, and wants me to lower it even further to only taking 25mcg 6 days a week (instead of 7). Does anyone know if working out increases thyroid demands, as I’m wondering if my levels are so good because I’m NOT working out. I’m considering exercising a bit again soon, but wonder if it would mess with my thyroid levels.

I’m considering returning to exercising soon. Nothing intense like I used to do, but mostly a yoga class and maybe some elliptical cardio. Then if that feels good, I’ll reintroduce some light weightlifting. The gym that I go to has regular yoga classes, but I’m not sure of what “restrictions” there are on postures during first trimester. I know a lot of you bloggers do prenatal yoga. Can you advise on what to avoid this early in my pregnancy? Merci beaucoup!

And finally… after 6 weeks of waiting… I had my first orgasm!Pregnancy has increased my libido somehow, and out of fear, I have been abstaining from any orgasm-causing action. I generally have a fairly high drive, and several times in the past 6 weeks, I have woken up to having orgasms in my sleep. And I mean, full-on, body quivering, uterus-contracting EARTHQUAKES! DW and I joke around that poor little Dumplin’ is grasping the walls of her amniotic sac, screaming “Earthquaaaaaaakkke!”. I spoke to the midwife yesterday about whether it was safe for me to be having orgasms now, and she said that when we have orgasms, oxytocin is released, which normally causes contractions like in labour, but that it isn’t until the 3rd trimester that we start to develop oxytocin receptors. That is why they often encourage orgasms as a way to encourage labour at term. For now, it means we’re all good to orgasm away.

Other than that, I’ve got nothing else to report. I’m still exhausted, I have headaches from the afternoon on, but otherwise, all is well. I’m looking forward to feeling better and better about this pregnancy as each day passes.

Provera, Diarrhea, and Waiting for AF

What a title eh?

Well, I finished my last dose of Provera on Saturday night. I was on a 10mg daily dose for 7 days, overlapping with Lupron. The Provera didn’t make me sleepy like the oral Prometrium usually does, which was disappointing (especially for the insomnia).

Some side effects that I did notice from the Provera were:
– constant back ache
– sore breasts toward the latter end of the week
– cramps roughly 12 hours after each dose, with the worst cramps from days 3-5, lasting 1-2 hours
– frequent urination at night- 3-4 times a night
– major constipation!

It’s hard to tease out what side effects were from the Lupron, but after consulting with the information sheet that came with my medication, as well as some IVF blogs, I think the following side effects are care of Lupron:
– super hungry (increases cell uptake of blood sugar and causes hypoglycaemia)
– insomnia
– mild headaches

For two days now, I’ve only been on the Lupron, and I’ve had the headaches. They aren’t bad, but have me retreating into the depths of a dark bedroom for a while.

As the Provera wears off, so has the constipation. Today, I have had frequent episodes of the runs. Fun times. Notice that I didn’t give you a TMI warning? (People who want babies should become desensitized to poop issues.) Diarrhea is a good thing though, as I would like my meals from three days ago to finally vacate my body. Diarrhea also means that my period is coming… Soon! *Fingers crossed* I can’t wait for CD1 and to start my stimulation drugs!

I have been tracking my BBT the past two days, so that I can get an idea of when to expect AF. Many women report not getting their period for up to two weeks after stopping Provera, so I’m a bit anxious about it. I’m super OCD about scheduling, so waiting for AF is pure torture for me. But my BBT has been hopeful, as this morning, my temperature dropped almost to half of the overall spike temperature. So I might start to bleed any day now. My withdrawal bleeds after Endometrin came three days later, so if I am consistent with that, I should get my period late tonight, or tomorrow.

For now, we wait.

FET#3: Cycle Day 3

Had blood work and a full bladder and empty bladder ultrasounds today. I also started my 6mg of oral Estrace, and boy is it giving me a pounding headache!

I’ve got tons of work to do today, but instead, I’m laying in bed, with the blinds closed, and my iPad on the lowest brightness possible.

I hope this goes away quickly, as I have to take my next dose in 3 hours!

Fast-forward to 6pm, headache still ailing me. My lovely wife takes over my regular cooking shift and makes me a delicious bowl of gluten-free mac n cheese (plus a protein shake for good measure).

I have been in bed pretty much the entire day 😦

But at least I get served this in bed!

I’m the luckiest girl!

IVF Medication Review: Marvelon

Both DW and I have had a really rough time on the Marvelon, and have been so happy to finally stop taking it a few days ago.

These are symptoms and side effects we each report:

DW: constant spotting after week one, cramping with spotting, pimples on the face, weight gain, larger breasts, mood swings, heavier cramping and bleeding than a regular menstrual period.

Moi: bad headaches, especially during a Marvelon period (I normally don’t he headaches at all), moodiness, cravings for sweets, weight gain, larger breasts, pimples on back (never happens for me), heavier bleeding and the terrible cramps during period (I don’t usually have cramps during a normal period).

We both got our periods about 48 hours after our last pill.

IUI#4: Five Days Post Ovulation

So far the progesterone has been great for sleeping, but last night I barely penetrated deeper than a light sleep. I imagine my sleep was like that of a fugitive on the run, sleeping in the wilderness, predators both animal and human to watch out for. Sleeping with one eye open.

Part of the reason why my sleep sucked is because I had the nastiest gas and bloating ever. I looked 6 months pregnant, and smelled like a nasty cloud of egg farts. Poor DW.

I tried to squeeze out a little turd to relieve some of the pressure, but was left unsatisfied. Constipation, ugh.

This morning I had 3 diarrhea-like poops before noon. I still feel bloated though.

Some other symptoms I’ve experienced today: very mild dull cramps (could’ve been due to the digestive upset, as the third bout of diarrhea happened shortly after the cramps), and mild headache.

Oh, and majorly craving sweets.

Who knows what’s going on.

Lastly, I am loving the pineapple I’ve got chopped up and rationed out. I’m very tempted to eat more than the suggested serving, and wonder how much is too much pineapple?
